$207 million for Victoria's freight infrastructure
The Victorian Government has announced a $207 million investment for a suite of freight-related initiatives under the State Budget.
The funding includes $110 million over the next four years to progress the Port of Hastings development.
State Minister for Transport, Terry Mulder, said that a further $97 million will be invested in a series of projects to provide support for the freight and logistics sector.
“These initiatives will improve the efficiency of freight movement, benefiting business, local communities and the environment,” Mr Mulder said.
“An efficient and productive freight and logistics sector is one the cornerstones of a healthy economy and a growing state.”
Mr Mulder said this year’s Budget would continue to boost this health, by leveraging projects to provide broader benefits to industry.
“A key initiative in this year’s Budget is the Transport Solutions regional freight initiative, which will see the government providing $28 million for 30 projects designed to support our growing regional export industries,” Mr Mulder said.
The initiatives include:
- $10 million for planning works for the Kilmore Wallan bypass;
- $9.4 million for the Cardinia Road upgrade;
- $6.9 million for Omeo Highway sealing;
- $11.3 million for the Managed Motorway Program; and
- $32 million for West Gate Bridge maintenance.
