The Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation (DEEDI) is undertaking a review of the tenure framework that regulates exploration for, and development of, Queensland’s coal seam gas (CSG) and coal resources.

The review, conducted by DEEDI — Mines, is in response to concerns raised by the coal seam gas to liquefied natural gas (CSG–LNG) industry and the conventional coal mining industry, and seeks to address a number of issues that have arisen due to the overlap in coal and CSG resources.

A consultation paper has been released as part of the review, designed to assist interested parties to interpret and apply proposed amendments to Queensland’s tenure framework for coal and coal seam gas.

The following documents have been released to facilitate consultation on the review:

Review of overlapping coal and coal seam gas tenure (PDF, 528KB)

Consultation Draft: Mines and Petroleum Legislation Amendment Bill 2011 (PDF, 280KB)

You are invited to submit your comments on the review and the proposals set out in the review documents.

Send your responses by mail, fax or email by 5 pm 18 March 2011.
