Feds broadside Victorian TAFE cuts
The Federal Government has issued a dire warning to prospective Victorian TAFE students, saying that the State Government's $300 million in funding cuts to the sector amounts to sabotage to the state's education and training sector.
Minister for Tertiary Education, Senator Chris Evans, released a new report that he says details the severity of the effects of the cuts to the sector's funding.
Senator Evans said the report reveals 80 per cent of the schools surveyed will reduce the range of vocational education and training (VET) programs being offered to students and more than half of the schools have been forced to reduce the number of student places.
"We already know the Victorian Government's cuts to TAFE are making it harder for Victorians to learn the skills they need to access the higher-skill, higher-paying jobs on offer," Senator Evans said.
"This report shows that young Victorians will bear the brunt of TAFE funding cuts."
