Firm raided in safety probe
A Queensland mining contractor has been raided after worker deaths.
Queensland's safety regulator has raided the offices of mining contractor Metarock, reportedly seizing nearly 14,000 documents as part of an investigation into two fatal incidents.
The raids follow the deaths of Graham Dawson in 2021 and Gavin Feltwell in 2022, both of whom were employed by Metarock subsidiaries at the time.
Graham Dawson was killed in a mine collapse at the Crinum site, operated by Metarock's subsidiary Mastermyne.
Meanwhile, Metarock's Mastermyne Contracting Services faces charges related to Feltwell’s death at Anglo American’s Moranbah North mine in March 2022.
Metarock is challenging the legality of the search warrant used in the raid, but a court recently upheld the regulator's right to access the documents.
The investigation continues as Queensland's mining industry faces scrutiny over a series of fatalities in recent years.
