Fortescue breaks Port Hedland record
Fortescue Metals has broken the record for the largest single shipment of iron ore to depart from Port Hedland, after the Herb Elliot Port facility leaded 254,010 tonnes of iron ore onto the vessel Abigail N last week.
The load broke the previous record by 5,644 tonnes, and took just over 35 hours to load the 327 metre long vessel.
The vessel also set a new record for the largest ever Dead Weight Tonnage ship to come into port at 297,430 tonnes.
Fortescue CEO Nev Power said the company was delighted to set the record.
“This achievement demonstrates Fortescue’s ability to continually get the best results out of its world class infrastructure and is a credit to our great shipping and operations teams,” Mr Power said.
The China bound vessel is set ro enter port at Qingdao later this week.
