Great South Land Minerals takes Tasmanian Government to court
Great South Land Minerals is taking the Tasmanian Government to court for withdrawing its exploration leases in the Central Highlands.
In May last year the State Government withdrew 10 of the 12 titles held by Great South Land Minerals.
Tthe company has now lodged papers with the magistrate's court to stop the Government from approving or proceeding with any applications from other companies to use them.
Great South Land Minerals argues the titles were confiscated without legal, commercial or political justification.
The company says it's spent more than $50 million on seismic testing in the Central Highlands, where it has an oil rig.
A Government spokesman says it supports mineral, oil and gas exploration but all players must abide by the regulatory framework, including meeting certain deadlines and targets.
