The Australian Trucking Association (ATA) says that the livestock transport safety scheme TruckCare has been merged with TruckSafe.

The ATA announced this week that TruckCare will now be treated as a voluntary module of the TruckSafe scheme.

The Australian Livestock and Rural Transporters Association (ALRTA) developed TruckCare, and this latest move follows ALRTA’s call last year for the the scheme to become a part of the ATA-run TruckSafe.

The ALRTA says it will get rid of overlap in certain areas while providing better value for businesses.

Two ALRTA representatives will sit on the TruckSafe board to make sure that livestock transporters maintain an active voice in the running of the accreditation scheme.

TruckCare chairman Kevin Fechner says TruckCare members will be able to continue their accreditation through TruckSafe.

“We understand that some of our members may have some issues with transitioning to the program. However, we feel that this will provide the best long-term outcomes for TruckCare and our members,” Mr Fechner says.
