Rail Skills Australia (RSA) has successfully delivered the first Rail Safety Workshop to industry leaders in Brisbane, aimed at assisting industry with familiarising themselves with the Rail Safety Act’s recent changes.

RSA’s CEO, Paul Daly, said the workshop was a resounding success, and that the Association had plans to deliver future workshops on the topic.

“The Brisbane workshop was a great success attended by National Safety Managers across not only Queensland, but nation-wide,” Mr Daly said.

“We saw advocates from leading companies in the industry walk away very pleased with the content of the session in Brisbane, with feedback that it was valuable and at a much broader level than expected, as well as a great help in understanding the obligations we all have when working on Queensland's railways.

“The success and overwhelming positive feedback from attendees has led to plans for RSA to conduct more workshops not only in Queensland, but across the country.”

Mr Daly said the Safety Workshops will provide companies in rail with a better understanding of the roles and responsibilities under the legislation.

“The recent changes to the Rail Safety Act by the Department of Transport and Main Roads can be confusing and could affect different companies in the industry in different ways,” Mr Daly said.

“RSA’s Safety Workshops allow HR staff, managers and supervisors to understand the new concepts included in the act and their particular meaning for their companies, and to be compliant for when the Act comes into full effect on January 1 next year.”
