Victoria orders more V/line carriages
Regional and rural train services in Victoria are set to receive a boost after the State Government announced a $200 million order for 40 new V/line carriages.
The carriages will be built by local train manufacturer Bombardier at its Dandenong South factory.
“This order will deliver 40 new carriages which will help to meet the demands of continuing growth as well as the expansion that will be made possible with the completion of the Regional Rail Link in 2016,” Premier Ted Baillieu said.
State Transport Minister Terry Mulder said V/line will take delivery of the first carriages in 2014, with the last delivery expected in late 2016.
Mr Mulder said that the new Vlocity carriages form a cornerstone of the State Government’s Regional Rail Link work.
“Construction works on the Regional Rail Link project are now underway and the Coalition Government is investing record amounts in maintaining and renewing our rail network,” Mr Mulder said.
