About the Team

Safety is our top priority at ARTC, not just for our employees and contractors but also for rail operators and the communities we serve. The Safety & Environment team plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of our rail assets. We work across and within several complex and challenging environments, from greenfield construction sites to operation and maintenance of some of the busiest rail corridors in Australia where our purpose is to enable ARTC to deliver while protecting the health and safety of our people, the community and environment.

About the Opportunity

Support the leadership teams by providing expert services, support and assurance for the effective implementation of ARTC’s safety management systems. The goal is to enhance safety outcomes, promote ownership of safety culture, reduce operational risks and ensure compliance with ARTC’s policies and legislation. The role is crucial in fostering a culture of safety across the business, driving performance improvements and aligning initiatives with the broader business strategy.

  • Act as a trusted business partner for leaders offering coaching, guidance, reporting and support on safety related matters, initiatives and performance. 
  • Lead a team of safety business partners, fostering collaboration, customer focus, to provide services, assurance and support to the business for the effective implementation of ARTC’s safety management systems and strategic goals and objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with ARTC’s Safety Management Systems, focusing on the implementation of critical controls and a risk-based assurance plan.

About You

To ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate:

  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing small teams.
  • Experience and knowledge in safety systems implementation and awareness of rail safety requirements.
  • Ability to partner with leadership Teams, translate Strategy, and establish practical and pragmatic implementation plans.
  • Ability to see bigger strategic picture and drive through practically to execution, ensuring collaboration and co-creation with key stakeholders throughout.
  • Ability to build relationships with internal and external parties such as regulators and drive performance improvement with outsourced delivery partners.
  • Ability to travel intrastate and interstate (class C driving licence required).
