Aquaculture Technician - Prawn Health/Hatchery

 

About the Job: We are currently looking for a full-time Hatchery & Prawn Health Technician to ensure the optimal health and quality of our prawns. This is a transitionary role where you will spend half the year with our Hatchery Team and the other half with our Prawn Health Team.

Proserpine: Located on our prawn farm halfway between Airlie Beach and Bowen, you’ll work in a stunning area. And you’ll be working on our 2/2/3 roster so you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy everything the Whitsundays have to offer!

What does the job involve?

  • Routine overview and sampling of prawn health, including cast net sampling, tray sampling, and hatchery sampling.
  • Cleaning and calibrating health equipment and instruments to maximize quality, accuracy, and performance.
  • Identifying, diagnosing, escalating, and solving prawn health issues promptly.
  • Exercising good biosecurity practices and adhering to all biosecurity policies and procedures.

What can you bring?

  • Animal husbandry experience (preferred but not essential).
  • Ability to prioritize daily tasks.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Great communication skills.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Strong rapport-building abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Some aquaculture experience preferred but not essential.
  • Capability to learn to throw a cast net.
  • Confidence in using an iPad.
